Stockport Council promotes water safety with new iKyp
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council is undertaking a new awareness campaign to promote water safety to primary school pupils in the Stockport area over the winter months. As a key part of this campaign, the Council has appointed Kyp Systems Plc to create an iKyp – information to Keep in your pocket – that will be distributed to 9-10 year olds to stress the importance of water safety and minimise potential accidents.
Stockport’s pupils are first taught about the dangers of playing on or near frozen lakes or ponds as part of water safety and swimming lessons. The iKyp aims to reinforce these lessons and enable children to identify and avoid hazardous situations. To ensure that the young recipients engage with the important safety messages, the iKyp also contains a word search and competition.
“It can often be difficult to get a serious message across to children of a young age,” says Ian Ratcliffe, Head of Marketing and Communications at Stockport Council. “But the iKyp is a fun and interactive communications tool that will capture their imagination and make learning about water safety enjoyable.”
“Effective communication with our residents has always been a top priority for Stockport Council. Continuing this tradition, the iKyp appealed to us as an innovative way of relaying serious messages.”
Nicholas Miller, CEO at Kyp Systems said: “The iKyp is an extremely versatile communications tool that will make a great contribution to Stockport Council’s awareness campaign. It appeals to kids because of its tactile nature and can be taken home as a continuous reminder of the need for care when playing near icy water.”
